My first apartment was a big place, about 950sf with a formal dining room but no designated office. I was flat broke and used a table desk for dining. It was horrendous – ugly black feet that were spring mounted for height adjustment, chrome legs and a pine top. Good for a desk, bad for a dining table. I often placed all of my bills on top and quickly cleared it when friends dropped by for a drink. Awww, the good ole’ days. For those of you working from a studio apartment, downtown loft or like myself, trying to re-purpose furniture to be economical, I offer you a great multi-functional table perfect for quick transitions between work and play.
Crate and Barrel’s Strut Home Office Collection consists of a glass table and matching credenza. The glass top is supported by sculpted, angled wood legs in a matte walnut stain. The size of the table measures 70″w x 34″d x 30″h, great for layout space and large enought for other purposes. As shown here, the table looks great as a desk and easily transitions into a dining table when entertaining. The beauty about glass furniture is the ability to look light and help keep the space open. Plus, it’s easy to clean!
The credenza is another great companion piece with a designated drawer for files, plus two shelves for books or china. I really like the idea of streamlining the living process and having a small place to live where you can switch the furniture to meet your current needs – a sofa that converts to a bed, office chairs used as dining chairs, a desk that can be used as a dining table…I think you get the idea.
Both pieces are individually priced at $699. Go to Crateandbarrel.com for more information.
